Elegant façade

The elegant façade is in a transitional Rococo-Neoclassical style. The wrought-iron balcony is authentic. This listed building was constructed using yellow bricks on a base of Arras sandstone. It is striking that the joints in the brickwork are virtually invisible. The mortar was applied in a groove on the inside of the bricks so that they fit together very tightly. The façade is, as it were, constructed from large flat surfaces. This technique is typical of 18th-century “hotels” in our region.
